Clear Vision, Brighter Futures: The Story Behind In-Sight Vision Therapy

At In-Sight Vision Therapy, we believe that vision is more than just sight, it's about understanding, connection, and independence. Founded in 2023, our mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with vision impairments through specialised, compassionate care.

Our Journey Begins

In-Sight Vision Therapy was founded in response to a clear and pressing need: many individuals with vision impairments, particularly those with complex or additional needs, were not receiving the specialised support they required. While standard eye care services addressed eyesight, there was a noticeable gap in functional vision therapy - support that helps people use their vision more effectively in everyday life.

We saw families struggling to access services that were tailored, consistent, and flexible enough to meet their child’s or loved one’s unique needs. Long waitlists, limited awareness of vision therapy’s benefits, and the challenges of travelling to appointments often made accessing help more difficult than it should be.

With this in mind, we set out to create a service that was mobile, compassionate, and evidence-based - designed to meet people where they are, both literally and in terms of their individual goals. Our mission became clear: to bring high-quality, functional vision therapy into homes, schools, and communities across Perth, and to ensure no one is left behind because of how or where they see the world.

Meet the Founder: Jemila Kanu

Leading our dedicated team is Jemila Kanu, an experienced Orthoptist with over 12 years in the field. Holding a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Master of Orthoptics from La Trobe University, Jemila is also a registered member of Orthoptics Australia and the Australian Orthoptic Board. Beyond her professional credentials, Jemila brings a personal touch to her practice, drawing from her experiences as a mother and carer. This unique perspective fuels her commitment to providing empathetic and effective care to every client.

Our services encompass comprehensive functional vision assessments, individualized therapy plans, and training in the use of low vision aids and technology. We also provide detailed reports to support funding applications through programs like the NDIS.

Why We Do What We Do

Every success story reinforces our purpose. Whether it’s a child improving their reading, handwriting, attention span, or ability to participate more confidently in the classroom, or an adult regaining independence in daily tasks like cooking, navigating their environment, or using technology, these milestones are what drive us forward. Our work is about more than just vision; it’s about empowering individuals to engage more fully with the world around them and enhancing their overall quality of life. Each client’s journey inspires us to continually refine our services and expand our reach, ensuring that no one faces vision challenges alone.
